Garbage Obsession!!

I live in a house of garbage obsession. Yes, you got it right, my room mates and I are obsesses with garbage and collect it, at least our families like to think so. We are three persons of different interests yet one thing binds us together and that is obsession and yes there is friendship as well.

It is night 2 O’clock and I am in my room watching a movie. I know other two would be awake too but do I care about it, not at all. Do I care for them, of course, why do you even ask? If you restore anyone of us back to ‘The last know good configuration’ we will still be friends.

I heard the sound of door opening and I knew what next I should expect but I decide to do nothing and wait for it. Someone knocked on my door. I pulled the TV remote from under my butt and pressed the mute button.

“It’s open.”

“Dude, dial it down a notch, please.” He said in a very calm voice. I nodded in response.

"Bozo, Get a bed"

"I love my recliner more then a 'bed' dude, stop asking me to buy one," He nodded as if he is disgusted and he closed the door behind him.

His name is ‘Day’. Well his name is Hridesh but we call him Day. May be because it is cooler, but for sure we like it that way. Day is a person who likes to read a lot. Fiction, non-fiction, bibliography, autography, scientific fiction, romance, plays, old, new, what not, his list is bigger than I know. I have seen him reading side effects of a medicine from the box cover with a magnifier as it will be written in small fonts.  He has more books than cloths in his room and in some more places in the house which I don't think I should talk about.

I pause the movie to write my comments on the last scene. I heard some noise from the living room when I was typing. I kept my laptop on the side table and got up from my chair and opened the door just a bit. I saw that Day and Kalu are in a heated discussion. The title of the discussion was ‘Girls should show there skin” from what I could hear. With obvious reasons Kalu was in favor of it and Day was against it, although Day’s girlfriend wear hot pants most of the time. I am sure Day was just against it as they needed an excuse to talk and have coffee. I kept my mum and kept peeping from the crack of the door opening.

“So, you are saying even if the girl’s skin is not good, she should still wear shorts or deep neck tops” Day said

“Ya, if she wants to. But, I would advice her to take care of her skin, like moist it and all” Kalu said and I could see Day raised both his hand after hearing Kalu’s disgusting argument.

“Why… Why am I even arguing with you?”

“Because you need a coffee,” Kalu said and Day responded with a nod of no and started to walk towards the kitchen. I opened the door and said

“Bitches!” in loud voice

“What are you doing man? Sheela ki jawani will think we are talking about her” Kalu said in low voice. The girl who lives next to our house has been referred as ‘Sheela ki jawani’ in our house because; one, we don’t know her real name and two, she is hot.

Wait! I forgot to introduce Kalu. His name is Rajiv, well his full name is Rajiv Ram Rahewal which for no reason is funny to me. We call him Kalu which means black but ironically he is very fair and white. He is a fashion designer for some stupid garment factory. He has been obsessed with drawing and painting from when we were kids. He use to sit in SUPW class with all girls when all guys use to play outside. He was first referred as ‘Faltoo Kalakar’ (Crappy artist) and eventually the tag of ‘Faltoo’ was removed when he won prizes at state and national level. We had to cut down the long name of Kalakar so it became Kalu.

There is no need of invitations in this house, if you want to be a part of it 'the code of conduct' is to join in first and use a abusive word so that you are recognized to be a part of the group. All three of us went into the kitchen. Our kitchen and living area is divided by a platform on which one can do dishes as there is a sink in the middle of the platform. So I jumped and sat on that platform. Kalu started to boil the milk and Day as always started looking in the empty shelves to find something to eat.

“I think hot pants are hot man, no matter what, every girl should wear it.” I said in order to continue the discussion

“That was a dead topic man, it is over” Day said from inside of a closet under the platform. I could only see his bums.

“Although I think short skirts are better than pants” Kalu said and looked at me with one eyebrow up.

“I don’t know. I don’t have any girlfriend. Day should ask Shivani to try skirts” I replied.

“Shut up you shit heads. She is like your sister.” Day came out of the closet suddenly and said with anger in his voice.

“No ways dude; Shivani is not my sister and if something she can be Sister-in-law.” Kalu replied. Day was back in the closet so he pushed his hand out showed us his finger, both of us laughed.

“There is nothing to eat man.” I said as I remember I eat the cookies he hid in there. He came out with a bag of chips and laughed out loud. What the hell, I don’t know how but this guy always has something to eat and we can never find out where he keeps it.

Kalu pore the coffee in the cups and asked me to play some songs. I had the best audio-video system in the house. I went to my room and yelled

“Coldplay?”

“No man Jim Croce. The old and romantic” Day said. I knew he had a fight with his girlfriend, Shivani. Otherwise he will not spend time with us in the night instead of reading. Anyway, I juggled Jim Croce and turned the volume low so that the romantic voice of his can be heard in the volume it should be heard. I went to the living room. We both knew Day is sad for some reason and neither of us asked. We knew he will speak up when he think time is right. We sipped our coffees while listening to lovely songs.

Day fell asleep on the couch and soon after that Kalu said he is going to bed and I followed him and went to my room. Before I switch the lights off I will introduce myself.

My name is Shrikant but my friends call me Bozo. I am named after Andre Bazin, the famous film critic. I discovered his book ‘Qu'est-ce que le cinĂ©ma?’ (What is Cinema?) when I was in college. I was obsessed with his work and want to follow him. I was already a movie freak as they like to call me, I however think of myself an admirer of movies. I use to carry the English version of the book with me all the time and later I purchased the original French version. Soon after my obsession begun my friends started to call me Bozo, which also mean a rude and idiot person. I am OK with both though.

All three of us are friends from school days. We joined the same college and completed our engineering in IT. We got selected in different companies in different cities. After one year in job, Kalu resigned and came to Pune to live with Day and to find a job of his dream. He wanted to be a fashion designer. He did some courses in Pune and finally found his dream job. Although, this job is a stepping stone as he says he wants to open his line of clothing which one day celebrities will wear to Award functions.

I started writing movie critics blogs while I was working in Banglore. I wanted to be closer to the industry and so I left my job there and shifted to Pune with these guys. My blogs were not working a lot but I kept writing and watching movies. I did not work anywhere for 2 long years. I am thankful to Day and Kalu that they kept me with them for such long time to support me, even when my parents were against it. Today I work with a local newspaper and they publish my review comments every Sunday. I also earn good money with my blog site. My dream is to be know in my line of work and write a book on film basics which will be loved and followed even when I am long gone.

Last but not the least, Day, he works in IT unlike us and so he is most loved by all of our parents. He is like a set example for us. He has been to US twice for project works and that has become a point of reference for both Kalu’s and my parents. Secretly, he is a book blogger with a hidden name and he is well approached by new writers for review on their books. He does proofreading for them and most of the time for free. The difference between him and me is, he wants to help others in the business of writing and not known for it and I want to help and be famous as well in the business of film making. One can say he is more genuine but other way of looking it is being honest and transparent to the world.

Our parents call our house ‘Garbage obsession’ as three of our rooms are filled with different type of garbage as per them. Fabric and Drawings are the only thing you can find in Kalu’s room. Shelves and bed drawer in Day’s room is just fine place to keep books, but they can be found in bathroom, kitchen and sometimes in fridge when he is reading in the night and go for a bite. My room is full of movie DVDs, documentaries, reels of unreleased or freeze movies. We have movies, drawings and books on devices like hard disk, kindle and ipads but I guess we need a real touch as well.

We let the people think about us whatever they want, we know we are followers and our other friends call us ‘3 Dreamers’ like ‘3 musketeers’. Enough of blabbing for now, I will go to bed.

May be I will tell you more about us later...

Simple story with well put up words.

I wish the story can be true in real life and we all can follow our dreams with courage.
